This was an oversight, corrected near the end by addition of water. Normally, I would also place a large suckback trap between the flask containing the NaOCl and the alkaline sulfite trap. If the tubing between these two became filled with chlorine at any point and the flow of Cl2 stopped, the alkaline sulfite would react with the Cl2, drawing itself into the tube and ultimately ending up in the hypochlorite solution- ruining my hard work. For safety reasons, I was keeping a pretty close eye on this reaction, but I forgot to put in a suckback trap. Fortunately it did not become an issue.
